Behind The Story Lotus first opened its doors in 2004 in the trendy neighborhood of Plaza Midwood in Charlotte, North Carolina. The idea for lotus was started by Effie Loukas while on an inspirational buying trip. She realized that great fashion was not about cost, but more about a unique look. From that concept, lotus was born... a store where style is not based on a price tag, rather looking and feeling fabulous! In 2010 Effie partnered with fashion-lover Jackie Rodney and opened a new store at the Metropolitan shopping plaza. Since its beginning, lotus has been consistently voted as one of Charlotte’s best boutiques.
The name lotus is derived from the beautiful ancient flower that is known for thriving and blossoming, regardless of its surroundings. At lotus women come in to shop, and leave glowing with confidence no matter where they come from or where they are going. The experience is not just about finding a chic outfit, it's about sipping champagne, laughing with friends and letting your beauty blossom. ![]() Meet the Owners:
Jackie Rodney Jackie grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, the youngest in a family with four daughters. In a house full of women, dress-up and style was always a huge part of her life. After college, Jackie moved to the fashion-forward bustling streets of Chicago where she fell in love with shopping at unique local boutiques. Here her individual style truly began to take shape. Upon moving to Charlotte, Jackie’s dream of owning a boutique was realized when she met Effie Loukas. Jackie said goodbye to the corporate world and opened lotus, beginning a new chapter in her story that began with a little girl in a rainbow tutu…
Effie Loukas
From humble beginnings in a small Greek village Effie has built one of the most recognizable brands in the Southeast. She grew up with two sisters who noticed her love of fashion early on when five-year old Effie could not part with her favorite pair of red boots. In 1980, her family moved from Greece to the funky town of Asheville North Carolina where Effie fell in love with the hip, bohemian boutiques that line the quaint streets. When she moved to Charlotte, Effie started lotus and began an incredible journey that involved challenges and obstacles, but ended with one of the most-widely publicized boutiques in North Carolina. She never let go of her dream of lotus’s success, just like she never let go of those red boots.
